Hubbell: Joel Kunnari, Sr., 77, of Hubbell, passed away at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility on May 11, 2017.
He was born on March 6, 1940 in Swedetown, a son of Melvin and Alice (Ollila) Kunnari. He was a graduate of Calumet High School. He continued his education at Michigan Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked for C&H Mining locally, and Kohler and Mercury Marine in Wisconsin. Later, he moved to California, where he worked for Tribotech until his retirement. He returned to the Copper Country in 2001.
He enjoyed picnics and trips to Brunette Park. He also liked to spend time with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by: his parents and a sister-Jean Bodwin.
He is survived by: a daughter-Debbie (Todd) LePage of Hubbell and their children-MacKenzie and Joel; special friend-Sharon Marcotte of Hubbell and her daughter-Peggy and grandson-Nathan of Laurium; son-Matthew Kunnari of California; son-Joel (Sherry) Kunnari, Jr. of Bootjack and their children-Jacob, Trevor, and Cody and a great-grandson-Anthony; a daughter-Vickie (Seth) Bovio of New York and their children-Holiday, Collins, and Major;2 brothers-Paul (Marcy) of Laurium and Ralph of San Francisco, CA; and friend-Todd Holzberger of Lake Linden.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public services. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
