Hubbell: Arthur Chaput, resident of Hubbell, passed away at his home after a long illness on June 8, 2017.

                He was born at Calumet Public Hospital, a son of Arthur, Sr. and Mamie (Remillard) Chaput.  He was a graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School and the Wolverine Trade/Art School in Detroit, MI.

                He served in the U.S. Army in Alaska during the Korean Conflict.

                He worked for C&H Mining as a welder.  Later, he worked for Copper Country Arts where he was the co-sculptor of the Bishop Baraga Statue on the cliffs near Keweenaw Bay.  When the Statue was complete, he worked at Williams Fabricating in Calumet.

                He was married to Claire Clouthier on November 10, 1951 at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church in Hubbell.  They traveled extensively together, especially after retirement.  He was an avid gardener; he built his own greenhouse and was known for his beautiful flowers and gardens.  He also enjoyed stream fishing and was a Green Bay Packers fan.

                Arthur was one of 10 children.

                He is survived by: his wife-Claire of Hubbell; 2 children-Glen (Debbie) Chaput of Hubbell and Judy (Jeff) Hilss of Hubbell; 3 grandchildren-Adam Chaput of Iron Mountain, Molly (Grant) Vaskey of Denver, and Tyler Anderson of Detroit; along with many other relatives; and his beautiful calico cat-Cheetah.

                The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at the Portage Health Dialysis Center for the care they gave their loved one over the past 2 years.

                The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden with Fr. Joseph Boakye Yiadom to officiate.  Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 11, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden.

                Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
