Tamarack City: Mary Ellen Carroll, 75, resident of Tamarack City, passed away at her home on June 20, 2017.
She was born in Arkansas on May 25, 1942, a daughter of Floyd and Inez Hopkins. She was a graduate of Mercy High School in Detroit and Henry Ford Community College with a degree in Nursing.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at Harper Hospital in Detroit until she retired and moved to Tamarack City in 1999.
She was married to Robert Carroll on October 3, 1969.
Mary was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden. Faith was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time at church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father-Felix Destrempes.
She is survived by: her husband-Robert, Sr.; 2 sons-Robert, Jr. (Lisa) of Westland, MI and Michael (Katherine) of Westland, MI; 6 grandchildren-Hannah, Mia, Sophia, Amanda, Kayla, and Jacob; and a brother-Floyd (Betty) Hopkins of Weeki Wachee, FL.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden with Fr. Joseph Boakye Yiadom to officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 23, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with a parish prayer service at 7:30.
Burial will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
