Lake Linden: Viola Kortema, 85, of Lake Linden, passed away at Portage Point in Hancock on July 3, 2014.
She was born in Bootjack on November 27, 1928, a daughter of Onni and Pauliina (Wiitanen) Kortema. In 1947 she graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School. She worked for Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Michigan and retired in 1988. She lived in Detroit from 1951 until 1998.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, 2 brothers- Nels Lampi and Arne Kortema, and a half-sister-Helen Kortema.
She is survived by: 2 close cousins-Rudy (Sue) Wiitanen of Duluth and Mamie Seppanen of Esko, MN, and a nephew-Neil Lampi.
Private family services are planned. Burial will be in the family plot at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
