Bootjack: Raymond David Kalcich, 75, of Bootjack, passed away at UP Health System-Marquette on August 6, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on February 24, 1949 in Lake Linden, a son of Rudolph, Sr. and Ruth (Gagnon) Kalcich. Ray was a graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1967.
He served in the US Army as a helicopter mechanic in Vietnam. He worked for C&H Mining, Kohler, and after returning from Vietnam, he worked various construction and home building jobs, Northern Hardwoods, and he retired from Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools after more than 30 years there.
He was married to Sandra Holzberger at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on August 10, 1974.
Ray was a member of the American Legion Post 90 of Lake Linden.
He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and going out to the camp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-Rudolph James, and sister and brother-in-law-Patricia and Michael Zerbst, Sr.
He is survived by: his wife-Sandra of Bootjack; daughter-Stacy (Richard) Machiela of Salt Lake, UT; son-Christopher of Harvey, MI; 5 grandchildren-Taylor (Brett) Poissant, Rayna Kalcich (Lawson Harris), Jacob Kalcich, Jaymes Machiela, and Rudy Kalcich; 2 great grandsons-Jameson and baby-boy Poissant; sisters-in-law-Linda Kalcich, and Sue (Gene) Thornton; brothers-in-law-Robert (Valerie) Holzberger and Thomas (Kari) Holzberger; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden with Father Raju Jose to celebrate. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 13, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden, with the American Legion to conduct Military Rites at 6:00 P.M.
