Calumet: Karen Moilanen, 73, of Calumet, resident of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility, passed away at UP Health System-Portage on March 28, 2016.
Karen was born July 22, 1942 in Osceola, MI, a daughter of Raymond and Marie (Nault) Mortti. She attended Sacred Heart School. She worked as a full-time mother and homemaker.
She enjoyed spending time and playing games with her grandson, Ashton. She liked to bake and do word circle puzzles.
She was preceded in death by: her parents-Raymond and Marie Mortti, her infant brother-Bruce Bonenfant, and her sister-Barbara Kitts.
She is survived by: her children-Kristin (Ashton) Moilanen, Paul Moilanen, Lori Ribbich (Russ Welch), Candie (Mike) Schmitt, Dace (Robin) Ranta and their 4 children; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins; sisters-Sandra (John) Scotti and Judy (Lee) Schulte; brother-Mark Mortti; and one aunt-Theresa Perkola.
The Funeral Liturgy will be at 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 2 at the Pearce Funeral Home, 455 4th Street, Lake Linden with Deacon Art Stancher to officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 PM before the service at the funeral home. In June, there will be a Celebration of Life for both Karen and her sister, Barbara, at which time the family will bring them to their birthplace to rest in peace for eternity.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility for their care and compassion for the 15 months that she was there and the ICU staff at UP Health System-Portage, Dr. Khokhar, Dr. Labonte, and nurses-Carol, Scott, and Gladys.
