Johanna "Joie" Axford

Dollar Bay: Johanna “Joie” Axford, 83, former resident of Dollar Bay, passed away at Canal View in Hancock on August 17, 2024.

                She was born on May 12, 1941, in Highland Park, MI, a daughter of Swande and Katherine (Olson) Salo.  She graduated from Hancock Central High.

                She worked at the Painesdale Post Office, Quality Super Valu in Hancock, JoAnn Fabrics, and as a CAN for Keweenaw Home Nursing and Hospice.

                She was married to Lowell Axford on October 29, 1960 in Calumet.  Lowell passed away on October 8, 1994.

                Johanna is survived by: 5 children-her favorite (only) son-Todd Axford of Negaunee; daughters-Lynn (Emilliano) Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, Jill Ronald Riehle of Edgar, WI, Terri (Lloyd) Starks of Dollar Bay, and Tammy (Jackson) Caskey of Dollar Bay; 12 grandchildren-Brandy, Jared, Amie, Katie, Anthony, Abel, Ariel, Elaina, Christina, Angela, Bobbi Jo, and Jonathan; 6 great-grandchildren-Wyatt, Colton, Eliot, Owen, Melody, and Axton; 2 sisters-Arlene Kenny and Helen Baker; brother-Steve Salo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

                The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with Pastor Micah Cavaleri to officiate.  Visitation will be for an hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
