Joan M. (Roberts) Schick

Lake Linden: Joan M. (Roberts) Schick, 81, of Lake Linden, passed away quietly at her home on Monday, October 23, 2023.

                She was born on May 5, 1942, daughter of Maurice and Florence (Janiszeski) Roberts-Heide.  Joan grew up in the Copper Country with 4 sisters and 2 brothers.  She attended and was part of the 1960 graduation class from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School.

                Joan met and fell in love with Paul F. Schick – they were married on February 27, 1960 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden.  Paul and Joan had 3 daughters.

                She raised her family in Lake Orion, Michigan where she worked as a highly successful real estate agent for over 25 years, until her retirement.  After returning to Lake Linden, she became the librarian for the Lake Linden-Hubbell Library.  As head librarian, she wrote grants and organized fund-raising events to improve the library and ensure that classrooms and children could get the books they wanted.  She loved reading and sharing her love of books to everyone.

                Joan was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Superiorland Library Cooperative.  She loved to cook and bake.  She enjoyed reading, quilting, and gardening; and she enjoyed the company of her longtime friends and extended family.

                She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-Maureen Ramme, step-father-Randall Heide, husband-Paul and daughter-Paula Doll.

                She is survived by two daughters-Debora (Jesus) Rodriguez of Flint and Stephanie Schick of Grand Blanc; son-in-law-Joseph (Paula) Doll of Grand Blanc; a granddaughter-Chessie (Justin) Passmore of Swartz Creek; 2 great-grandchildren-Dawson Berry and Keliegh Passmore; siblings-Sharon (Greg) Wallis, Randall (Gail) Roberts, Mary (Tom) Paquette, Bill (Debbie) Heide, and Christine (Ronald) Waara; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

                The graveside service will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet in the spring of 2024.  The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is assisting the family.

                Memorials in Lieu of Flowers may be directed to the Lake Linden-Hubbell Library in Joan’s memory.
