Lake Linden:  James Moehrke, 82, of Lake Linden, passed away at his home on May 12, 2014, with his wife and grandson by his side, after a 12 year battle with cancer.

            He was born in Hubbell on April 9, 1932 a son of Christian and Margaret (Schneller) Moehrke.  He attended St. Cecilia School in Hubbell and graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1951.  He also attended Michigan State University for a year majoring in agriculture.  He served in the Army in Korea as an Army Corporal, Specialist Class 4 during the Korean War.  He worked for C&H mining as an electrician.  He also was employed by Gregoire Trucking, hauling stamp sand from the Freda Mill to the White Pine Mine. Later, he worked for Cable Vision Cable Co., which became Teleprompter, which he helped build.

            He was married to Violet Alanen on May 20, 1961 at St. Matthews Church in Hancock.  For 22 years they were able to winter in Camp Verde, Arizona; they made one last trip this past February.

            He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Lake Linden, the Hubbell VFW Post #4624, and proudly served with the Copper Country Veterans Association as the bugler.  He made maple syrup for 70 years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He made Northern Pride thimbleberry jam and cut many a cord of firewood.  He was a yearly participant in the Relay for Life.

            He was preceded in death by: his parents, a son-Steven, a sister-Betty Erickson, and his canine companion-“Sassy.”.

            He is survived by: his wife-Violet; a daughter-Lori (Donald) Carlson of Marquette; a son-Scott of Lake Linden; a grandson-Kyle, who always called him “Papa;” a sister-Marjorie Lajimodiere; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

            The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden.  Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00P.M. on Thursday at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with a parish prayer service at 6:30 followed by a veteran’s service from the Copper Country Veterans Association.  Friends and family will go to The American Legion Post 90 in Lake Linden after the visitation on Thursday for a lunch in memory of James Moehrke.
