Hubbell: Helen Cecilia DesJardin McCormick, 83, of Hubbell, passed away on November 28, 2016, at Our Lady of Mercy in Hubbell with family by her side.
She was born on May 5, 1933 in Hubbell, a daughter of Emile and Celina Perreault DesJardin. She graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1951. After school, she followed several of her sisters from Hubbell, to the Washington, DC area. There, she met her husband, Tony, raised their family, and began her career as a switchboard operator. She worked for the local C & P Telephone Company, the Pentagon, and numerous hotels in the Washington, DC. She met many famous people, including the astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, and an author of the Foxfire Books. Her final position before her retirement was as a security guard at the Dept. of Energy in Germantown, MD.
Three months after meeting Anthony “Tony,” they were married August 6th, 1955, and they had a long and loving marriage until his death in 1984.
Helen remained in Maryland, where she enjoyed fishing, crabbing, sewing, knitting, bingo, gardening and sharing these with her children and grandchildren. In later years, she loved playing slot machines. Helen returned to Hubbell for her retirement and loved picking thimbleberries and making jam.
She was a member of the Lady Foresters, and the National Catholic Society of Foresters.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Anthony; her parents; her brothers-Raymond, Francis, Emil, William, and Joseph; and her sisters-Emily, Louise, Marie, Anne, and Theresa.
She is survived by: sisters-Madonna Kajander and Agnes (Fritz) Ahola; children-Peter of Orlando, FL, Mona Geist of Winchester, VA, James of Covington, GA, Cecelia Trevino of Hubbell, MI, Anthony, Jr. of Temple Hills, MD, and Michelle Poole of Mayo, MD; grandchildren-Ryan, Christine, Catherine, Jason, Jessica, Stephanie, Pedro, Jr., Selina, Christopher, Joshua, and Justin; greatgrandchildren-Annabelle, Juliet, Hazel, William, and Anthony.
The Funeral Liturgy will begin at 4:00 PM on Thursday, December 1, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with Father Francis Dobrzenski to officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 until the start of the funeral at the funeral home. Burial will be at the family plot in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to help with final expenses.
