Lake Linden: Frederick Nelson Sargent, 89, born August 22, 1927, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones after a long illness on March 18, 2015.
Fred, a WWII Veteran, joined the Navy at age 17 and was an active member of the American Legion Post 90 of Lake Linden. He served on the color guard for many years, taking pride in representing his country at numerous parades, memorial services, and local sporting events. Fred was a family man who loved his camp in Bootjack, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. A lifetime member of the Iron Worker’s Union #008, Fred spent most of his career with Herman Gundlach and Yalmer Mattila Construction, retiring in 1989.
He leaves his wife of 65 years-June (Kauthen) Sargent; his two daughters-Gail (Bruce) Hodges and Brenda Sargent; grandchildren-Kimberly Hodges, Douglas Hodges, and Holly (Michael) Monette; great-grandchildren-Nicholas, Morgan, Ruby, Benjamin, Olivia, Lucas, and Preston; in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Fred is preceded in death by: his parents-Samuel and Ethel (Vivian) Sargent and his sisters- Blanche (Steve) Walkowski and Vivien (Robert) Holzberger.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 21 at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with Rev. Robert White to officiate and American Legion Post 90 conducting Military Funeral Honors. Visitation will be from Noon until the time of the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home. Family and friends will celebrate Fred’s life at American Legion Post 90 in Lake Linden following the funeral service.
