Bootjack: On August 10, 2015, Edward S. Chopp passed to Our Lord and is now at peace.

Ed was born in Ahmeek on October 11, 1925 to Martin and Frances Chopp.  Ed's parents each came by ship from Yugoslavia; they met and married and started the Chopp Market.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents and siblings and spouses:  Gabe (Eleanor), Thomas (Elvie), Martin (Dorothy), Mary (Ike) Bryant, Frances (Walter) Kunath, Theresa (Norman) Rapson, and Robert Tellner.  He is survived by his sister Rose.

Ed is survived by his wife Patricia Carlton Chopp; they were married for 66 years.  Ed is also survived by son Bob of Traverse City and daughter Linda (Mike) of Agate Harbor.  Ed is also survived by his step-granddaughter Jennifer (Major Thomas) Hudson and children Owen and Katie of Lorton, VA.

Ed's in-laws were very close and he spent many happy hours with them: Robert (Peggy) Carlton of Lake Linden, Mary K (Robert) of Agate Harbor and Dorothy of Agate Harbor. Special family: Carol Carlton of Eagle Harbor and George 'Bud' Baudino of the Lakeshore.  Deceased family members were Frederick 'Fritz' Carlton, William 'Bill' Carlton and Jan Baudino.

Ed has numerous nieces and nephews.  He was especially close to Don Chopp of Black Diamond, Florida, Thomas and Dennis Rapson of Lansing, MI and Bobby Masnado of Madison, WI.  Special men that have touched Ed's life are Jessey Poissant, formerly of Bootjack and Mike Hocking of Hancock.

Ed enlisted in the Navy when he turned eighteen, and served on ammunition ships in the Pacific fleet during World War II.  After the war Ed attended DIT in Detroit and worked as a butcher in family meat markets in Detroit and Lansing.  Ed and Pat wanted to raise their children in the Copper Country; they returned and Ed worked for Metropolitan Life in Calumet.  Ed and Pat then purchased the Pichette Insurance Agency in Lake Linden; in time it became the Chopp Insurance Agency.  They also operated a branch office for Detroit and Northern Savings and Loan.  Ed cared greatly for his customers and always did his best to serve them well.

Ed loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fly fisherman in his early years. In later years he loved to be with Pat or Fritz and troll or jig for fish in Lake Superior.  Trips to Isle Royale and Manitou Island with family and friends were some of their best memories.  At Bootjack Ed loved to work in his garden and yard.  Ed was also known as the 'cookie' man.  He loved to share his cookies with many.  Ed also made great povitcia, filianazalia, and pea soup.

Ed and his family express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bonnie Hafeman and staff, Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital Staff, Houghton County Medical Care Facility Staff, and Aspirus At Home and Aspirus Hospice Staff.  We have been truly blessed to have these caring people to help us for many years; they have touched our lives in so many special ways.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden with Fr. Francis Dobrzenski and Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to con-celebrate and Deacon Art Stancher to be the Deacon of the Mass.  A graveside service with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 90 will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Calumet.  A picnic lunch will then take place at the Siskiwit in Calumet. Thank you to the Loading Zone of Lake Linden for their food preparation and Toni's Kitchen of Laurium for baking Ed's cookies.

In lieu of flowers, please remember Omega House, Little Brothers and Friends of the Elderly or the charity of your choice.
