Traprock Valley: Darlene Marie Tuovila, 61, of Hancock, Michigan passed away on May 5, 2015 in the company of her family. Darlene was born on January 5, 1954 in Calumet Public Hospital. She was raised in Centennial Heights and graduated from Calumet High School. Darlene married James Henry Tuovila on March 11, 1972 in Calumet. They resided on Valley View Road in Traprock, where they raised their family. Darlene was a skilled and compassionate caregiver to the elderly. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing and loved spending time near Lake Superior.
Darlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 1989 and her dear mother Bertha Kangas Nordstrom in 2001. She is survived by: three children, Lori Tuovila (Scott) of Central Square, New York, Heidi Tuovila (Charlie) of Calumet, Michigan, and Jason Tuovila of Hancock, Michigan; two grandchildren, Katie Frederick (Cory) and Charles Frederick, Jr. of Calumet; two great grandchildren, Aleeigha Just and Audrey Just of Calumet, two brothers, Dale Nordstrom of Gay, Michigan and Duane Nordstrom of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
To honor the wishes of the deceased, private services will be held by the immediate family. To those wishing to pay homage to Darlene, we suggest that you take the time to enjoy a sunset over Lake Superior in her memory. However, any donations may be made to Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly, on Darlene’s behalf.
