Hubbell: Alfred Thomas, 97, of Hubbell, passed away at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital on July 22, 2016.
He was born in Calumet on February 3, 1919, a son of William and Emmie (Dyer) Thomas.
He worked in the CC Camps before enlisting in the US Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked for the Army Corp. of Engineers in Detroit until his retirement in 1974. He returned to the Copper Country, making his home in Hubbell in 1975.
He was married to Jean Myers in Bay City, Michigan in 1940. She passed away on June 11, 2007.
He was a member of the Hubbell VFW Post. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions, Red Wings, and Tigers.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, parents, brothers and sisters.
He is survived by: 2 children- Trudy (Gordon) Grant of Black River, MI and Thomas (Sherry) Thomas of Lake Linden; 5 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; a sister-in-law-Maxine Myers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 12, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden with Father Francis Dobrzenski to officiate. A picnic will follow at the Lake Linden Park. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
