Shelly Hietala Obituary
Lake Linden: Shelly Renee Hietala, 55, of Lake Linden, passed away after a short illness at UP Health System-Marquette on December 12, 2019, with family by her side.
She was born on March 4, 1964, a daughter of William and Barbara (Bonini) Rickard. She was a graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1982.
She worked at the Harbor Haus, Houghton County Medical Care, Paul Normand Construction, the Lift Bridge, and for 25 years at Walmart in Houghton.
She was married to Gerald “Tom” Hietala on September 30, 2000.
Shelly loved gardening, swimming, and going to the beach. She made great apple pies. She enjoyed knitting, carpentry, and projects with her hands. She had a great many friends whom she adored and would do anything for. She loved her family, including her grandkids, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
She is survived by: her husband-Gerald “Tom” Hietala of Lake Linden; a son-Tylor (Kayla Poisson) Rickard of Lake Linden; a step-daughter-Kylie (Hietala) Bianco of L’Anse, step-son-Tom (Katy) Hietala of Bend, Oregon; parents-William and Barbara Rickard of Hurontown; brothers-William “Rick” (Julie) Rickard of Rice Lake and David Rickard of Lake Linden; sister-Trina (Cassius) (Rickard) Bentley of Mildenhall, England; grandchildren-Kenzie and Kailob Bianco of L’Anse; nieces and nephews-Rachel Peterson, Alyssa (Tyler) (Rickard) Roose, Gage Peterson, Cassius Bentley, and Ambrose Bentley; a great-nephew-Waylon Rowe; sisters-in-law-Sharon (Craig) Struble and Susan (John) Belsito; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
The memorial service will be at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 19, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden. Visitation will be from 5:00 until the start of the service on Thursday.
