Sandra Louise Barrette

Sandra Louise (Matson) Barrette of Dollar Bay, MI, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. She was 79 years old.

Sandy was born at home on February 9, 1940, in Lake Linden to Wilfred & Gladys Matson. She graduated from Dollar Bay High School in 1958.

She was united in marriage to Dennis Barrette on September 15. 1962 at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Calumet, MI, the last wedding held at this venue.

She was a waitress at Nelson’s Restaurant in Houghton, MI for many years before becoming a full-time stay-at-home mom in 1969. She volunteered for various social service agencies including Oak House in Hancock, MI.

Preceding her in death were her parents, twin infant sons, Michael and Patrick, and siblings James “Jimmy” Matson, Betty Codere, and Wilfred “Auty” Matson.

She is survived by her husband Dennis of Dollar Bay, children Brad (Roxanne) Barrette, Hubbell, MI, Lynn Barrette, Dollar Bay, Lucas (Laurie) Barrette, Iron Mountain, MI, grandchildren Bradley, Jesse, Britney, Aimee, James, Maggie, Joshua, and great-grandchild Otto; siblings Evelyn (Cy) Laurent, Carol (Louis) Chandonais, Louise (Robert) Parolini, Dorothy Holzberger, Gladys “Lucy” Matson, John (Karen) Matson, William “Tim” (Kathi) Matson, Paul Matson, Donna (Michael) Fountaine, mother-in-law Myrtle Barrette, sister-in-law Jill (Bill) Hodges, and many dear cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be given to the Dollar Bay Fire Department, the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Area Schools, or your local home hospice service agency.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 26 at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with Pastor Bucky Beach to officiate.  Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until the start of the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Lake Linden
