Tamarack City: Robert Walter Haataja, 68, of Tamarack City, passed away on October 31, 2017, at his home, with family by his side.

                He was born on October 4, 1949, a son of Walter and Elsa Haataja.  He was a graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in the class of 1967.  After high school, he served in the Army as a diesel mechanic, stationed in Germany.  He worked at Kohler in Wisconsin.  Later, he worked at Bunny Bread Bakery, retiring after 37 years.

                He was married to Ruth Berg on June 28, 1975 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hubbell.

                Robert was a member of the American Legion Post 90 in Lake Linden, a volunteer driver for DAV, and a member of the NRA.

                He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a good bowler.

                He was preceded in death by-his parents and a sister-Patsy Richards.

                He is survived by: his wife-Ruth; 3 children-Eric (Nicki) Haataja of Manchester, CT, Stacey (Jeremy) Lassila of Dollar Bay, and Crystal (Derek) Holzberger of Bootjack; 5 grandchildren-Deric, Kyla, Mason, Nora, and Bryce; a sister-Nancy Jolly of Lake Linden; and many other relatives and friends.

                A private family funeral service will be held at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden.
