James Stevens Obituary

Bootjack: James E. Steven, 66, of Bootjack, passed away at his home on February 4, 2018.

                He was born on April 4, 1951, a son of Robert and Marie Stevens.  He graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1969 and from Northern Michigan University in 1973 with a degree in Industrial Education.

                Jim worked at Hancock High School, teaching drafting and woodworking for 37 years.  He also worked at Keweenaw Home Nursing for 25 years.

                He was married to Janet Kolb on June 15, 1974 at Saint Joseph Church in Lake Linden.

                He was a member of the Lake Linden Fire Department for 5 years and the Bootjack Fire Department for 25 years, where he also served as a first responder.  He was a past president of the Copper Country Fire Fighters Association.  He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church where he served on the church council.

                Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, farming on his property, and spending time in his workshop.  Friends will remember that he would always say “Thank you for being part of my day.”

He was preceded in death by his parents.

                He is survived by: his wife Janet; 2 sons- Jason (Amy) Stevens of Lake Linden and Jeffrey Stevens of Denver, CO; 3 granddaughters- Emma, Payton, and Jordan; 2 brothers- Michael (Nancy), Ronald (Kathy Maki); 5 sisters- Patricia (Larry) Felhauer, Joan (Clarence) Hoffman, Bonnie (Bob) Olli, Debbie (Dan) Judnich, and Bobbie (Ray) DeRoche; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.  The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
