Traprock Valley: Carl Raymond Kumpula, 84, of Traprock Valley, passed away on March 7, 2018 at Aspirus-Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
He was born on November 29, 1933 in Calumet, a son of Reuben and Dorothy Kumpula. He was a graduate of Detroit Central High School. He worked for Michigan Bell and AT&T as a splicer.
Carl was married to Margaret Sinclair in Detroit. She passed away in February of 1996.
He enjoyed “playing the horses,” and working on his betting system. He also liked to read.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
He is survived by: 6 children-Peg (Bob) Schumaker of Houston, TX, Don (Sue) Kumpula of South Lyon, MI, Ray (Barb) Kumpula of Glenrock, WY, Karen Redman of Prairie Du Chien, Wi, Mike (Laura) Kumpula of Houston, TX, and Jack (Kathy) Kumpula of Lake Linden; a special friend-Mary Schmitt; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a brother-Bill (Darlus) Kumpula; 2 sisters-Lois (Clarence) Harvey and Dorothy (Jeff) Smith.
Private services will be held. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
