Urban “Tibby” Baril Obituary

Urban “Tibby” Baril, 86, of Hubbell passed away Friday, November 24th at the Omega House.

Tibby was born on November 27, 1936 in Lake Linden, the youngest of 13 children born to Arthur and Mary Louise (Bourdeau) Baril.  He graduated from Lake Linden – Hubbell High School in 1955.  Tibby served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, he was fond of his time spent training at Camp Hale in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.  Following his service Tibby received a welding certificate from Michigan Tech and began a long career as an Ironworker, working mainly for Herman Gundlach and Yalmer Mattila. He worked on many buildings at MTU and other industrial sites across the Western and Central UP.   Tired of life on the road, Tibby closed out his career at Peninsula Copper Industries in Hubbell where he retired in 1999.

Tibby was married to Carole Forget on September 2nd, 1961 at the Saint Cecelia Catholic Church in Hubbell.  He was an avid high school sports fan, with scrapbooks filled with newspaper clippings from the Lakes Football titles of the 90’s.  Tib enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and never met a broken toy he could not fix.  He also enjoyed spending time at his camp “The Buckhorn” and was a master story teller sharing his days on the iron, an epic roadtrip to Mexico City, or a hunting story with anyone who enjoyed a good tale.  Tib had a quick wit and made people around him smile to the very end.

Tibby was preceeded in death by his mother and father, by four brothers Lionel Baril, Reuben (Doris) Baril, Robert (Ann) Baril, and Edward (Muriel) Baril, and eight sisters, Madeline Baril,  Clara (Robert) LaSage, Stella (John) Scott, May (Pete) Able, Florence (Albert) Murn, Dorothy (Anthony) LeChavalier, Irene (Robert) Schnotala, and Doris (Donald) Julio.

He is survived by Carole, his loving wife of 62 years, three children, Laurie (Anthony) McGrath of Negaunee, Debbie (Michael) Trezona of Hubbell, and Peter (Nicole) Baril of Lake Linden.  Ten grandchildren Shane (Jennifer) McGrath of Grand Rapids,  Chelsea (Tyler) McGrath of Marquette, Cody McGrath of Tucson AZ, Jesse (Jessica) Trezona of Lake Linden, Courtney (Brandon) Trezona of Houghton, Stephanie (A.J.) Trezona of South Range,  Nicholas (Arizona) Trezona of Boston Location, and Tobin, Emmett, and Quincy Baril of Lake Linden.   Great Grandchildren Isabella McGrath, Baby Boy McGrath due January 2nd, and Riley, Sophie and Oaklen Trezona, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Tibby’s family would like to thank the skilled and compassionate caregivers at both Aspirus Hospice and the Omega House for making his final days comfortable.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden at Noon on Friday, December 1, 2023 with Father Raju Jose to celebrate.  Visitation will be from 10:30 until 11:30 A.M. on Friday, December 1, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden.  Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery.
